Charter schools are required to comply with the requirements of the New York State Department of Health (DOH) in effect since September 1, 2016, and should refer to the DOH’s 2020-21 NYS Guide to Required Immunizations .
DOH’s regulations provide that students attending kindergarten through grade 12 must have two doses of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine. In addition, students in grades K-5 need five doses of the vaccine for diphtheria, tetanus and a cellular pertussis (DTap) and students in grades 1,6, and 7 must have four doses of the polio vaccine, depending on the age of the child at the time of the last dose.
The regulation now requires completion of the MMR, DTaP and polio vaccine series upon school entry in student’s first year (usually kindergarten).
